Your average audiophile wants to enjoy every song on his iPod playlist, hearing deep bass, crystal-clear vocals and detailed,dre beats headphones, rich sound. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that they want to walk around town with an oversized pair of headphones that could almost weigh your head down.
That’s the idea, at least, behind Sony’s recently released line of XBA headphones. In a world owned by Beats by Dr. Dre and dominated by talk of “40 mm dynamic drivers,” venerable Sony tries something else: Balanced armature technology.
Balanced armature is the same tiny, almost invisible driver that powers an average hearing aid, making for a smaller, more understated line of headphones that aim to still deliver a rich, full sound.
